Banquet Captain

The Blackburn Inn is a historic luxury boutique hotel and conference center located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Staunton, Virginia. Our Conference Center is located on property with a physical address of 106 Village Drive, Staunton, VA 24401. We offer several unique event spaces at the property, including The Great Hall, Gallery 1828, Upper Gallery, The Penthouse and at the hotel in the Art Gallery and outside on our picturesque front lawn.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for controlling all aspects in the execution of banquet function.
  • Effectively supervise the Banquet team during all food and beverage service.
  • Coordinating every aspect of the Banquet team during all food and beverage service.
  • Assist the Banquet Chef in the complete operation of the Banquet Department.
  • Responsible for adhering to hotel policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for adhering to all liquor liability laws.
  • Must assist/conduct all designated staff/pre-function meetings.
  • Prior High Volume Experience preferred
  • Review, understand, and execute Banquet Event Orders
  • Coordinates quality of food service between culinary and service staff
  • Prepare decorative arrangements on food service areas
  • Enforces all department standards and food service regulations
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations
  • Use layouts to set and prepare all variations of event functions.
  • Perform cashier duties as needed. Cash Bar
  • Assist with serving tables, bussing and bartending.
  • Help maintain audio and visual equipment. Understand all technical devises.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, late nights, weekends, evenings and holidays depending on events schedule.
  • Must be able to work on their feet for long periods of time and be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.
  • Must pass a background check.


  • Experience in a leadership role preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a fine dining, catering or banquet service environment preferred.
