The Glass Light Hotel and Gallery in downtown Norfolk, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Pastry Cook.  The pastry cook is responsible for the daily preparation, production and finishing of all pastry and desserts that are served at the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery. The pastry cook, may be asked to work in a variety of techniques and stations, but not limited to production and service. Pastry cooks typically have several duties that revolve around helping the kitchen stay clean and maintaining the high standards of the operation. 

The Pastry Cook is expected to:

  • Follow all recipes, and presentation specifics as set forth by the Pastry Chef.
  • Effectively prepare all recipes in a timely and organized manner for specific service period.
  • Have a general knowledge of classic and modern pastry techniques.
  • Set up station according to Pastry Chef/Kitchen guidelines.
  • Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and have complete understanding of food safety.
  • Have an attention to detail in order to maintain kitchen and food standards.
  • Have a willingness and openness to learn, grow and develop in the kitchen.
  • Have a positive attitude and an enthusiasm for food and hospitality.
  • Support entire team to reach the common goals of the kitchen and overall hotel team.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and holidays.
  • Be able to stand or walk for an extended period of time.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending and twisting.
  • Be able to move, lift, and carry objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
