Position:

  • The National is currently seeking the Assistant Director of Events and Planning.  This position is responsible for supporting, motivating, and counseling conference planning and conference services team to provide excellent overall service for customers while delivering desired bottom line revenues, staffing, scheduling, training, evaluation as they impact the operation.

Required/Preferred Education & Experience:

  • College degree required. 
  • Hospitality degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years (3-5) of Hospitality experience required. 
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Basic computer (MS Office) and internet skills. 
  • A working knowledge of property management systems is helpful. 
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities preferred.
  • Must posses a strong interpersonal skills, ability to maintain composure, and the ability to make quick decisions.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must work well independently.
  • Must have flexibility of work schedule to include long days and weekends.
  • Duties of this position will be conducted in a professional environment.

Reports to: Executive Director of Sales and Marketing

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Director of Operations in establishing department's long-range goals and plans that are realistic, attainable and consistent with client and The National's operational and financial objectives.
  • Assists the Director of Operations in action plans that will guide both routine and special program activity toward established goals and forecasts. Directs and delegates responsibilities in order to execute the plans.
  • Participates in overall direction and control of operation through site inspection/tours, maintenance of client relations, prompt resolution of guest complaints, and etc.
  • Directs day-to-day operations to assure continuing quality of service and product.
  • Enforces safe practices in the use, storage and maintenance of facilities, equipment, materials and tools.
  • Follows and trains employees on policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Work with leadership to coordinate activities of the various departments, ensuring that a total quality product is delivered.
  • Reviews and recommends updates to policies on a regular basis, both locally (property specific) and throughout the business unit to maintain and reflect current industry standards and trends.
  • Processes invoices to pay vendors for services.
  • Prepared for and leads conference services meetings to discuss issues, identify problems and solutions, explain and implement new policies, and discuss general observations and concerns of team.
  • Contributes to department revenue forecasts to assist Director of Operations and Accounting Department.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving overall guest satisfaction.
  • Conducts formal performance reviews for all positions responsible for and initiates recommendations for pay changes. 
  • Follows all The National's policies and procedures and safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or overtime.
